§ 6-63. Impoundment.

  • (a)

    Dogs. In addition to, any penalty hereinafter provided for a violation of this chapter, any police officer may impound any dog or cat which habitually pursues any vehicle upon any street, alley or highway of this village, assaults or attacks any person, is at large within the village, habitually barks, cries or howls, kills, wounds or worries any domestic animal or is infected with rabies.

    (b)

    Owner may redeem. Possession of dogs or cats impounded under this section may be obtained by paying $10.00 to the village clerk-treasurer, plus the actual cost of keeping such animal, for each day or fraction thereof the dog or cat has been so impounded. Unlicensed dogs shall be properly licensed prior to release. Dogs or cats impounded for a period of seven days shall be destroyed by or under the direction of the police department.

    (c)

    Village not liable for impounding dogs. The village shall not be liable for the death of any dog which has been impounded or disposed of pursuant to this section.
